Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
About the Massachusetts Real Estate Course
Q) How long does the online course take to complete?
A) It all depends on you and your determination! Since the online course is taken at your own pace, you decide how much (or how little) of the course you would like to complete each time.
The CE Shop’s Pre-Licensing courses expire six months after the date of purchase. Each student will be granted a one-month extension at no charge, to be applied immediately after the initial six-month term. For any reactivation or extension of the course after the seventh month, The CE Shop will charge the student 20% of the current retail price of the course for each 30-day extension or partial 30-day extension in the event that the course finally terminates before the end of the final 30-day extension. Students may also elect to re-enroll for 50% of the current retail price of the course, if the course has hit the year expiration or the student is at the 7 month mark and wants to repurchase and restart the course and enrollment. Extensions or reactivations cannot be granted beyond 12 months from the purchase of the course since, in all events, the course terminates 12 months after purchase.
Q) What is the difference between a Real Estate Salesperson and Broker?
A) Explained by Mass.gov:
Broker: "Negotiates agreements to sell, exchange, purchase, rent or lease interests in real property for a fee, commission or other valuable consideration for another person. A broker is responsible for accepting and escrowing all funds, such as a deposit placed on the purchase of a home, and for finalizing transactions. A real estate broker must supervise any transactions conducted by a salesperson."
Salesperson: "Engages in the same activities as a broker, except completing the negotiation of any agreement or transaction. A salesperson also has no authority or control over escrow funds. A salesperson must be affiliated with a broker, either as an employee or as an independent contractor, and work under the supervision of the broker. A salesperson can not operate his/her own real estate business."
Every real estate agent starts out as a real estate salesperson. Once you have worked under a licensed real estate broker for 3 or more years, you are then eligible to take the broker's license exam and become a broker.
